 So You Wanna Write?

Join the adventure as an aspiring playwright just in time to enter ArtsView’s 2012 playwright contest! Coaching, tutoring, and mentoring from a published author!

In this five-week course comprised of 1.5 hour sessions, students, ages 12-Adult, learn the fundamentals of playwriting. The goal of this course is to have completed a ten-minute play by the end of the class that may be submitted to ArtsView’s 2012 ‘Mission: Possible’ Playwriting contest.  Students will bring beginning pages, an outline or an idea of the play to the first day of class. Students will be expected to participate in class and read their work (and the work of others) as it progresses over the course of the sessions. There will be time in each class for writing of their individual plays. Sessions will include:  Playwriting Format, Character, Setting, Dialogue, Conflict, Drama, and Resolution, as well as a segment on the Gift of Creativity.

John Kelly has published dozens of short stories and articles in national publications such as American Airlines Magazine, Horizon Air, Grit, InsideKung-Fu, Stage & Screen, Prairie Business Journal, Notre Dame Magazine, and many others. He’s the author of the young adult novel, Lost & Found, and has written screenplays and several produced stage works. He’s currently The Director of Communications for The Gathering, a Christian philanthropic organization based in Tyler, Texas. Raised in the Northwest, he now lives in East Texas with his wife, Dawn, and their ever-growing menagerie.
